Traffic Safety Task Force

The Cape May County Traffic Safety Task Force has been formed by Sheriff Schaffer in an effort to improve traffic safety on the roads of Cape May County. The goal of the Task Force is to reduce motor vehicle crashes and resulting injuries and fatalities for both motorists and pedestrians. The task force will implement programs for seatbelt use, booster seat use, bicycle and pedestrian safety and school bus safety.

Child Car Safety Seat Inspections

*** NEW *** The Cape May County Sheriff's Office is once again offering Child Safety Seat Installation Inspections at the Cape May County Superior Court House. Inspections are by appointment only. You can schedule an appointment by calling 609-465-6863.

We will publish the schedule for monthly seat inspection events when it becomes available.

Car seat safety checks take between 20  to 30 minutes per seat. You may call the Cape May County Sheriff's Office at (609) 463-6863 to schedule an appointment with a certified technician at the Superior Court Building.  No car seat inspections will be scheduled on Holidays.

Nationally certified technicians will observe how the child arrives in the seat, review the current seat installation and point out deficiencies, check for recalls and walk the parent/care giver through the proper installation and ensure that all children leave safer than they arrive.  Children should be present and in their car seat.
