Traffic Safety Task Force

The Cape May County Traffic Safety Task Force has been formed by Sheriff Schaffer in an effort to improve traffic safety on the roads of Cape May County. The goal of the Task Force is to reduce motor vehicle crashes and resulting injuries and fatalities for both motorists and pedestrians. The task force will implement programs for seatbelt use, booster seat use, bicycle and pedestrian safety and school bus safety.

Child Car Safety Seat Inspections

The Cape May County Sheriff's Office offers Child Safety Seat Installation Inspections at the Cape May County Superior Court House. Children should be present and in their car seat for the inspection. Nationally certified technicians will observe how the child arrives in the seat, review the current seat installation and point out deficiencies, check for recalls and walk the parent / care-giver through the proper installation and ensure that all children leave safer than they arrive. Car seat safety checks take between 20 to 30 minutes per seat.

Inspections are by appointment only. You may call the Cape May County Sheriff's Office at (609) 465-6863 to schedule an appointment with a certified technician at the Superior Court Building. Car seat inspections will NOT be scheduled on weekends or holidays.

We will publish the schedule for seat inspection events as they become available.
